Central IL ABATE News
November 2008
We had our General Membership Meeting October 11th, at the 21 Club with twenty-three members present. Our meeting opened with a minute of silence and reflection in observance of the passing of business owner G. Louis Vitale; who founded G&M Distributors, Inc. We also wished the President of Fulton County Richard “Black Sheep” Stage a speedy recovery of injuries he sustained from an automobile that t-boned him.
Our Assistant State Coordinator for ABATE of Illinois Ed Domine casually dropped in during our meeting. He was given the opportunity to speak several times concerning state board issues, and his endeavors to get the secretary of state to approve a year round ABATE of Illinois specialty plate.
We had nine central members to thank for their outstanding help at Representative Don Moffitt’s Family Picnic; you’re welcome Don! Phil Hare’s upcoming Country Jamboree was mentioned, prompting an inquiry to Fed Pac on what our chapter may -or may not be allowed to do- for Phil. We must remain compliant with the election commission regulations. Phil cosponsored HR 1076 HIPAA Recreational Injury Technical Correction Act last year and has recently, publicly announced his co-sponsorship of H.R.2694 Right to Repair; thank you Phil! We reviewed the grades compiled by Abate PAC and Fed PAC - political action committees. Please consider voting for motorcycle friendly candidates.
Our Charity HOG Roast Run has been concluded w/75 riders. We visited the top four qualifiers on our way to Nowhere -- Bar & Grill that is! Reggie and Marci’s hospitality and selection of “Armed & Hammered” was awesome; Victoria rocked! Thanks go out to all retailers, sponsors, the Bud girls and participants; we had a great time.
Our 14th Annual Halloweenie Roast and membership get together was held October 25th at Richard and Charlotte’s. Be sure to thank them for their generous contribution of weenies, buns, condiments and annual hospitality. Hats off to Jim and Mitch for building an outhouse w/seats for the premises; maybe they’ll axle it next year for the races. Our 28th Annual Polar Bear Toy Run was held November 1st. Our toy run began at the Grand Tap in Galesburg and finished with the Chili Cook off at the Alley in Monmouth. Some got their prize winning chili recipes out and cooked off with Richard. He was adamant that he’d provide this year’s polar bear chili for the chapter.
Our next meeting will be held November 8th at the 21 Club. Hopefully several of us will attend to discuss distribution of Hog Drive proceeds to our charities, and set up our annual appreciation party. Please park in the 21 Club parking lot or on the street; the old sears lot is a tow zone.
Please be alert to road hazards, inattentive motorist, farm machinery and the increased presence of deer.
